These are my most recent work, 2018.
These are paintings from a month residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia. The studio was a wonderful quiet place in the middle of a bustling corner of the city. I was fascinated with the seaweed that blooms in the canals and in the open lagoon. Some are natives but many came with the deluge of visiting ships. Some of the sea blooms are from the canal edges and some are imaginary compositions that articulate my experience of this great city as it struggles to survive the modern world of ecological perils.

These paintings are part of a new series. I am painting on both sides of the polyester film to create the images. It is a combination of action painting with fluid acrylics and inks and brush work. The pieces unite my longstanding pursuit of abstraction and the landscape painting. I have used abstraction to express internal and emotional landscape of my life.
And here in these works I am able to combine the physical world with the internal world. |
Since moving to the Oregon coat in 1990’s I have hiked the river trail and been duly impressed by the landscape I have seen. Over time the landscape began a big part of my work. In 2012 I proposed a show for the Center for Visual Arts in Newport, Oregon called River Mantra. It was accepted. The show held in the Fall 2013 consisted of some this series. It continues just like a river fluid and changing. These are the oil or acrylic paintings from 2012-14 of this series.
